Most of these Herbal Remedies are taken from Judes Herbal Home Recipes, Jude C Williams, M.H.
Many of these remedies, I have tried & seem to work well; give em a try!
Lip Balm: Simply melt 1-1/2 ounces of beeswax over hot water in a double boiler, stir in an ounce of honey, beat in 2 ounces of olive oil, continue to stir until cool. Put in a wide mouth jar. Apply as needed for chapped lips.
Mouthwash: Add 1 teaspoon of peppermint, rosemary and any other mints, to 1 cup of boiling water, steep at least 15 minutes. You can also use cinnamon, lemon verbena or allspice.
Styptic Lotion: Apply to nicks & scratches. Mix 1/4-cup water, 1/2 tsp. alum & 1/8 tsp. glycerin; shake & apply as needed. I have also used witch hazel in place of the water & have used olive oil in place of glycerin.
Poison Ivy treatments: Cut open a green tomato & squeeze the juice onto affected areas, do this as soon as you can after being in contact with poison ivy. I have noted that it DID not work on poison oak.
Mix equal parts buttermilk, vinegar & salt, rub onto affected areas. I have used this after the rash has appeared, & it helps the itching. I have tried this with poison oak, & it has worked. Make a paste of baking soda & water; apply to the affected areas. This will stop the itching. I have tried this with other itchy rashes 7 it has worked as well as calamine lotion.
Grated raw potato also works well to take away itchy soreness, works well on eczema as a poultice. Friends have used this on children with chicken pox, with fair results.
By the way, mint teas are excellent to drink when eating dishes containing Beans 😖 Iced tea doesn't work as well as the warm / hot teas.
Remedies for burns... Aloe Vera, grated raw potato, yogurt, apple cider vinegar. I have soaked a burned hand in apple cider vinegar & it DOES stop the stinging sensation.
Plain table salt moistened with water applied to mosquito bites stops the itching, as does toothpaste, & a mixture of meat tenderizer & ammonia.
Thiamin 100mg, taken before going into the woods will help ward off biting insects, such as mosquitoes.
Athletes foot.... sea salt (I have used regular table salt) in warm water, soak feet & dry well. Also foot baths of apple cider, or baking soda, or lemon juice. Keep feet dry & clean. Use cotton socks!
To stop diarrhea, simmer 2/3-cup rice in a quart of water for 15-20 minutes, add a dash or so if cinnamon & vanilla extract, strain out rice & sip the tea. It works!
To prevent constipation, take 2 tablespoons blackstrap molasses in a glass of warm milk or water before going to bed. Can use juice or hot tea.
An old remedy to stop bleeding from a wound, roll up cobwebs into a ball & apply to open wound. Will stop bleeding immediately!
Apply witch hazel to bleeding wounds, cuts & scraps, will help heal also!
Lemon balm, crushed & applied to a wound bind up with a clean bandage, this also stops bleeding.
For sore muscles, heat table salt in a heavy cast iron skillet, fill an old sock, (NO HOLES), & apply to stressed muscles, relives soreness & stiffness. Tie a loose knot & salt can be reheated & reused for those tired, achy sore muscles.
For sinus infections.... my friend uses this & has not had to take antibiotics for over a year now! Dissolve one 500mg Vitamin C tablet in a 1/4-cup hot water. Cool & place in a bottle with a dropper. Apply 1/2 dropperful to each nostril 2 -3 times a day.
To clear head colds, simmer apple cider vinegar, & inhale fumes. If too strong dilute with a little water.
Feeling restless at night? Have a hard time getting to sleep, have a bowl of oatmeal with some cinnamon, and skip the sugar!
